Authors View Of Human Behaivior Essays - English-language Films

Creator's View of Human Behaivior A creator's perspective on human conduct is regularly reflected in their works. The books All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and Lord of the Flies by William Golding are the two instances of works that show their creator's perspective on man, too his sentiment of war. Golding's Lord of the Flies is profoundly decisive of Golding's conclusion that society is a dainty and delicate shroud that when evacuated shows man for what he genuinely is, a savage creature. Maybe the wager exhibit of this given by Golding is Jack's movement to the executing of the sow. Upon first arriving on the island Jack, Ralph, and Simon go to review their new home. En route the young men have their first experience with the island's pigs. They see a piglet trapped in a portion of the plants. Rapidly Jack draws his blade in order to execute the piglet. Rather than finishing the demonstration, notwithstanding, Jack falters. Golding states that, The delay was just long enough for them to understand the tremendousness of what the descending stroke would be. Golding is proposing that the cultural restrictions set on executing are still instilled inside Jack. The following critical experience in Jack's movement is his first murdering of a pig. There is a depiction of a incredible festival. The young men serenade Execute the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood. It is obvious from Golding's portrayal of the party that followed the slaughtering that the demonstration of the chase furnished the young men with more than food. The activity of slaughtering another living thing gives them delight. The last stage in Jack's transformation is exhibited by the homicide of the sow. Golding portrays the executing nearly as an assault. He says, Jack was on the sow, wounding descending any place pig tissue showed up ... Jack found the throat, and the hot blood rambled over his hands. The sow fallen under them and they were substantial and satisfied upon her. For this situation it is sure that creature brutality is shown by the young men. Since they have been away from sorted out society for so long, the young men of the island have become Golding's perspective on humankind, abominable, ruinous monsters. Despite the fact that Golding shows that the more one is away from society the closer to his view one turns into, the establishment of progress doesn't get away from his analysis. Golding appears through numerous models that the individuals who are enlightened are similarly as inclined to savagery and war as the individuals who are confined. The principal model introduced in the novel happens when the young men endeavor to imitate the British popularity based government. The young men prize the grown-ups that run the administration as the best leaders. It is these socialized grown-ups, in any case, who begun the war which has constrained the young men onto the island. Additionally, in their imitating of grown-up society, one of the principal things that the young men do is build up the ensemble as a military or a gathering of trackers. One more of the reactions of systematic culture comes when Ralph requests a sign from the grown-up world. Ralph gets his sign in the type of a dead parachute shot down in an air fight over the island. This can be deciphered as saying that the viciousness existent in man is even appeared in the supposed socialized world through acts of war. Golding plainly considers war to be an activity of devastation brought about by man due to his innately wild nature. While Golding sees man as a fierce animal whose abhorrent qualities are brought out by detachment from society, Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front shows an astoundingly differentiating assessment of mankind. Where Golding's characters become progressively increasingly savage when put in a troublesome condition, those of Remarque figure out how to as a matter of fact develop all the more mindful and build up a sentiment of comradeship. It is clear that in spite of the way that Remarque's principle character and storyteller, Paul B?umer, is participating in a war and murdering others, he is certainly not a severe sickening animal. Indeed, even on the front, where Paul is at risk for losing his life, he acts in a way straightforwardly differentiating Golding's perspective on man as an awful tracker. Paul

Consequences of Pride Creon as the Tragic Hero of Sophocles Antigone - Literature Essay Samples

While it is likely that Oedipus Rex is the only character who completely embodies Aristotles idea of a tragic hero, there are many characters who possess enough of his defined characteristics to qualify as the tragic hero of their respective drama. Creon, the King of Thebes in Sophocles Antigone, is one such character. A noble and relatively virtuous man who loses everything he has as a result of his excessive pride, Creon experiences a revelatory manifestation moments too late to undo his wrongdoing, thus making him the Aristotelian tragic hero of the drama. As is required of an Aristotelian tragic hero, Creon is of high social status, for at the beginning of the play it is made known that he is the King of Thebes. In addition, Creons high moral character, as seen through his love for the state, the just decision to punish Polyneices, and his good leadership, further makes him worthy to possess the label of tragic hero. When speaking to the chorus, Creon states:. . . if any[one] makes a friend of more account than his fatherland, that man has no place in my regard. For I . . . would not be silent if I saw ruin, instead of safety, coming to the citizens . . . remembering this, that our country is the ship that bears us safe, and that only while she prospers in our voyage can we make true friends. (86)Creon believes that the state is of the utmost importance, and thus the fact that he would stop at nothing to protect his subjects shows that despite his actions, he has the best of intentions. Creons good nature is also seen in the manner in which he buries Eteocles, who with due observance of right and custom he has laid in the earth, for his honor among the dead below (82). The fact that he refuses to show Polyneices the same respect further testifies to his virtue, for he values the state above all else and thus would never deem the countrys foes a friend to [him]self (86). By refusing Polyneices an honorable burial, Creon is justly retaliating against the man who attacked his country. Furthermore, his subjects, including his son, Haemon, view him as a good leader. Haemon puts such faith in his father that in Creons wisdom [he] trace[s] the rules which [he] shall follow (96). Creon is a wise leader, and thus his son vows to follow the rules that he sees fit to set. However, despite his inherently good nature, Creon possesses a tragic character flaw that leads to his downfall. Creons flaw comes in the form of an excessive amount of pride, as is seen in the manner in which he speaks to Ismene. When Antigone is sentenced to death and Ismene asks how she will live without her presence, Creon states: Do not speak of her presence; she lives no more (94). His reply is a definite indication of power, for he states that Antigone no longer lives, when in fact she is standing beside him; he believes to have the power over her life and death. Creon equates himself to the stature and power of the gods, who give and take life as they plea se. In addition, Creon refuses to listen to the wisdom of another, especially if it contradicts with his own views. When Haemon attempts to convince Creon to spare Antigones life with an argument deemed wise by the chorus, Creon responds by posing a question of condescending nature: [are] men of my age . . . to be schooled by men of [yours]? (97). He is too egotistical and thus unwilling to learn something from the wisdom of another. Furthermore, throughout the course of the same conversation, Creons pride overtakes his justness, and Haemon rightly accuses his father of offending against justice (98). When Haemon reveals to Creon that the Theban folk with one voice disagree with the execution of Antigone, he replies arrogantly: Shall Thebes prescribe to me how I must rule? . . . Am I to rule this land by other judgement that my own? (98). He is appalled at the idea that anyone, especially those beneath him, can tell him how to rule his state. Creons excessive pride prevents h im from gaining the realization that his judgement on the matter, despite its good intentions, is incorrect. While the fact that Creon punishes Polyneice can lead to him being seen as a virtuous man, the manner in which he punishes him largely contradicts this view of his character. Creon fails to see that when the state and the gods are in conflict, the gods must be obeyed, for they are of the highest authority. It is his excessive pride his tragic flaw that causes him to dishonor . . . laws which the gods have established in honor (84). Furthermore, Creon refuses to listen to the prophecies of Teiresias. Before Antigone is killed, Teiresias warns him that. . . it is [his] counsel that has brought [the] sickness on [the] state. For the altars of [the] city and of [the peoples] hearths have been tainted one and all by birds and dogs with carrion from the hapless corpse, son of Oedipus. Therefore the gods no more accept prayer and sacrifice at [the peoples] hands. (103)Creon is blatantly told that the gods have been angered because their laws were broken when Polyneices was denied an honorable burial. However, he refuses to acknowledge that his actions were wrong, and accuses of Teiresias of cloth[ing] shameful thoughts in fair words for lucres sake (104). His pride, and his belief that it is dire to yield, blinds him against rational thought. (105). At this point it is too late for Creon to save the state, for his arrogance, which led to errors in judgement, has already determined his bleak fate.Even though it is too late to prevent his own downfall, Creon still experiences a revelatory manifestation. After Teiresias leaves him alone to contemplate the situation in light of his prophecy, Creons pride and arrogance retreats, and his just judgement surfaces. When the chorus states that Teiresias has never been a false prophet to [the] city, Creon realizes that what the man said must be true, and thus it is useless to challenge it: by resistance to smite my pride with ruin this is a dire choice (105). He is now able to admit that the laws of the gods are above his laws the laws of the state and that it is best to keep the established laws [of the gods], even to lifes end (106). His enlightenment is most noticeable when he blatantly admits his judgement was wrong and that his son died as a result:Woe is me for the wretched blindness of my counsels! Alas, my son, you have died in your youth, by a timeless doom, woe is me! Your spirit has fled not by your folly but by my own! (109).Creon now views himself as a man blinded by arrogance and excessive pride. He realizes that he has done wrong, and thus excepts his punishment, asking of the people to lead [him] away, for he is a rash [and] foolish man (110).Due to Creons good intentions and innately good nature, one does not view him as a villain, but rather feels sympathetic toward him. His downfall is caused by a tragic character flaw pride. It is this pride that has le d to the death of his wife, his son, and of Antigone; it is this pride that causes him to lose his beloved country and to live a lonely life in which he is looked unfavorably upon by his own people. While at the end Creon recognizes the wrong in his judgement, it is too late to do anything about it. It is for these reasons that Creon is the Aristotelian tragic hero of Sophocles Antigone.Works CitedSophocles. Antigone. Greek Drama. New York: Bantam Classics, 1982. pp 82-110.

The New President Faces Challenges At The Department Of...

The Life of an Executive Order The new president faces significant challenges at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Rectifying these short comings is important if the U.S. is to remain secure and prosperous. On January 27th, 2017, president Trump signed an executive order dealing with immigration. The order took effect immediately and sparked anger and confusion across the nation. Dozens of international travelers were detained at airports across the country. Most of those detained were simply caught up in a government communication limbo. The order placed a temporary moratorium on immigration from seven countries Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. The OLC, whose authority addresses the form and whether the order is properly drafted, approved the order. Yates objected to the president’s executive order. Yates declared that as long as she was acting attorney general, the Department of Justice would not present arguments in defense of the executive order until she became convinced that it was appropriate to do so. Clearly, since Yates did not issue this statement on the grounds that the order was illegal, she based her decision on her disagreement with the justice of the order. Consequently, Yates was fired. This action fortified the legal battle we are debating today. Timeline of Trumps Order and the Court Filings Sunday, Jan. 29 Federal lawsuits were filed in New York, Massachusetts, Virginia and Washington on behalf of travelers who were detained in airports in the United States. Later Sunday evening, the White House said that legal permanent residents are exempt from the travel restrictions in the new executive order, referring to green card holders. Personal Goals Essay Example For Students

Personal Goals Essay When I think of graduating from college, I see someone who is 22-years old. When I was 22 years old, I had seen more things than I care to remember. I had just left the Air Force where I was a medic in the first Gulf War. I spent most of my time in the Labor and Delivery unit of the base hospital. I loved assisting with the birth of a child. My time spent in the Labor and Delivery unit was the most wonderful and rewarding experience. Before I left the Air Force, I started taking college courses working toward a bachelors degree in Nursing. My dream was to obtain a Master of Nursing degree in Midwifery. As a Certified Nurse Midwife I could care for pregnant women and help them bring their babies into this world. Complete My Degree When I left the military and returned to Austin, I continued to pursue a Nursing degree, but got side-tracked in college life. That would be the party side of college life. There are those who say that if the person was raised in a rich family, all opportunities are available to them and there is a high! chance that the person will live a comfortable life. The same people are saying that if the person was raised in a poor family there are too many obstacles to overcome and most of the time these barriers on the way are too hard to cross. On the other hand, there are those people who say that the America is the land of opportunities and any person could achieve his/her goals if they set their mind to it. I am honest and do not deceive, cheat or steal. I am reliable; Ill do what I say Ill do and I have the courage to do the right thing. I have built a good reputation and been loyal standing by my friends, family, and my country. I treat others with respect; I follow the Golden Rule. I am tolerant of differences and I use good manners and refrain from bad language. I show consideration for the feelings of others. I will not threaten, hit or hurt anyone; I deal peacefully with my anger, insults and disagreements. I always do my best and do what I am supposed to do; perseverance is my key. I practice self-control and self discipline. I consider consequences before acting and know that I am accountable. Play by the rules; take turns and share. I am open-minded and I listen well to others. I never put the blame on anyone else for my faults. .

Moon Essays (355 words) - Observational Astronomy, Lunar Phase, Moon

Moon Conclusion on the Moon Watch When I first got this assignment I was thinking I am never going to be able to do this every night for a month. I surprised myself once again. This class has made me doubt myself many times but I always seem to pull myself up to do it. I believe I did very well on this experiment and I achieved the purpose. I got finished and I even added some color. One problem I encountered was not being able to see it because of the trees in my yard. I had to drive a mile up the road to even see the moon. I found it and put down my data. The second problem I encountered was getting everything about the moon everyday. Some days were harder because I missed looking at the moon but I got with other students and I got my information (Without copying someone's data). The third problem was the different times that I had to see the moon. One was earlier in the evening and the moon wasn't there after nine o'clock, some weren't visible until nine thirty, and once, I couldn't see it until the morning. It was just a little hard figuring out what time the moon was going to be visible. This application can be used by actually anyone. We as students can use it to see where the moon is to the earth and where the sun is. Fisherman and Mariners can use the moon watch to know when the fishing is good and when there's high tide and low tide. Researchers can watch the moon phases and watch the different types of craters and valleys and basins there are on the moon. The marks on the moon don't change but the same marks don't show up every night. So far I have liked this experiment the best. I have always been interested in the moon and I loved the opportunity that I have had to watch the moon. I learned something new again and it was fun thanks for picking this experiment. I really love this class. Science Essays

Human resource and employment law Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Human resource and employment law - Coursework Example He served as an unofficial spokesperson against the abuse of workers in industrial organizations and government corruption. LaFollette supported union growth and development as a check-and-balance on large corporations’ power. Some of the notable, specific measures he supported included protection of workers’ rights, defense of small farmers, preservation of state forests, breaking up monopolies, and taxation on railroads (Wisconsin Historical Society, 2011). The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals case of Spoerle v. Kraft Foods Global, Inc. involved plaintiffs (employees) suing their employer, Kraft. The lawsuit claimed the company was not paying employees for all time owed. Employees were fighting for payment of time spent getting into and out of required safety and sanitation clothing. Additionally, the employees felt they should be paid for the time spent walking to and from the stations where they worked at both the beginning and end of their shifts (Nicholas Kaster Attorneys at Law,  2008). The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) allows union employee and employer relationships, as far as management and policies are concerned, to vary depending upon the agreed Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Judge Easterbrook determined the provision, â€Å"requirement that employers pay workers for time spent donning and doffing ‘integral and indispensible’ safety gear under 29 U.S.C.  § 203(o),† did not override Wisconsin’s state law. French Revolution Essay Example for Free

French Revolution Essay The French Revolution was a very important series of events for all of French history, making a big impact on all the lives of past and present French citizens. There was no one factor was directly responsible for the French Revolution. Years of feudal cruelty and taxing, public revenues and public debt mismanagement contributed to a French society that was on the edge of revolt. The French Revolution, the revolutionary movement that shook France between 1787 and 1799, reached its first climax there in 1789. After taking notice of the falling economy in the late 1700s, King Louis XVI, very self-centered, thought his authority to rule came from god himself. He brought in a number of financial advisors to review the weakened French treasury. Each advisor reached the same conclusion, that France needed a large change in the way it taxed the public, and each advisor was, in turn, kicked out. Eventually the king realized that this taxation issue really did need to be solved so he appointed a new controller general of finance. The new general of finance suggested instead of taxing the poor, tax the ones that would be able to pay, the nobility, the ones that were exempt from paying taxes before. The nobility refused. Financial ruin thus seemed imminent. The French Revolution was a very important series of events for all of French history, making a big impact on all the lives of past and present French citizens. Eating Disorders :: essays research papers

Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  There are many different types of eating disorders in our world today and many suffer from them. Young women, and the reason is unknown, are the main targets (Holt, Rinehart, and Winston, 147). I believe young women are more apt because of the ideal media, newspapers, magazines, etc. That's how they feel they need to live up to, and also they are more emotional and are in that stage of life where things like this matter a lot. There are two very common eating disorders, anorexia and bulimia.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder that is characterized by a person with a body weight less than 85% of what is considered normal weight. Anorexics have a fear of being fat (Sonder, ). Anorexics limit their food intake, which is the same thing as starvation. A person who is anorexic continues to diet even when they are bone thin. They are never satisfied with their appearance. They engage in excessive exercising and long depressions, these are just some of the danger signals that anorexics show. This self-starving behavior can lead to sever emancipation or even death. Anorexics see normal fat (folds of flesh) on the body as fat that needs to be eliminated. They often find sleeping and resting a discomfort because they have lost their normal body fat. Victims of this serious disorder tend to further from family and friends. They want to be isolated. There are many dangers from starving yourself. The body tends to slow down or even stop certain body processes, your blood pressure may fall, breathing rate may drop, and menstruation also stops. They thyroid gland disappears, and this is the gland that regulates your growth. Your nails and hair become brittle, you skin is dry, and you suffer form light headiness, constipation, and swelling of the joints. When fat is reduced, the body temperature begins to fall, and soft hair forms on the body for warmth. Your body chemicals may also be so imbalanced, heart failure may occur. People who suffer from bulimia nervosa also want to be thin, but they do it in a different fashion called binging and purging (Sonder, ). Binging is when a person will eat a bunch of food, exceeding normal calorie intake. Purging is the way they get rid of it. This way you are still able to eat and then still be thin, but this is very dangerous and can often be deadly.

Of Mice and Men Relationships

The novel ‘Of mice and Men’ is written by John Steinbeck, set in the 1930’s, America, during the Great Depression. The theme of the novel is of two men (George and Lennie)   Steinbeck introduces the two characters, George and Lennie, in the opening section of the novel. From this dialogue-â€Å"You drink some, George†- the reader is able to establish an understanding of the two characters’ relationship. One stayed behind the other’, is the first indication that one take more of a lead in the relationship than the other, and more evidence to support this: ‘Lennie imitated him exactly’. Steinbeck goes on to describe the first man to be ‘small and quick’, whereas ‘behind him walked his opposite, a huge man’. It would be thought the larger man would lead, to protect. The two men are described as ‘Both were dressed in denim trousers and in denim coats†¦ and both carried tight blanket rolls’ .This shows they are similar in the way they are both itinerant workers. However they differ with appearance: George is explained to have ‘sharp features’, and Lennie to be his opposite ‘shapeless of face’. Steinbeck uses their appearance to show how completely different they are with everything, George has a sharp, quick mind, while on the other hand Lennie is rather simple minded. Steinbeck presents George and Lennie’s relationship very much like that of a father and sons.George looks after Lennie’s work card as George knows Lennie well enough not to trust him with it: â€Å"think I’d let you carry your own work card? † George also looks out for Lennie and tries to protect him- ‘you never oughta drink water when it ain’t running’, which is evidence to show he is like a father, advising Lennie. Steinbeck emphasises the theme of George and Lennie being like a father and son further by George praising Lennie to build Lennie’s self esteem: â€Å"Good boy, that’s it†.

What I Thought Was The Definition Of Disability Essay

At the beginning of the semester, I wrote what I thought was the definition of disability. Disability is â€Å"a socially constructed idea that being different makes you unable to be useful or valued in society† I wrote. This answer, while not wrong, only scratched the surface of how I define disability now. As a disclaimer, I do not believe I now have a full or encompassing definition of disability, but I do believe I have a better one. To start, the the definition I had written used the term â€Å"socially† constructed, which is seeing it from a limited perspective. Socially implies that society as a whole has widely adopted or at least acknowledged a movement. While attitudes and actions towards people with disability are widely adopted, they receive too little acknowledgement. For example, it is very common to infantilize people with disabilities, but that is not something that is spoken about, it is just accepted. For comparison, feminism is a social construction; the pay gap between men and women is frequently talked about, allowing people to recognize the issue or develop their own opinion about it. Infantilization, on the other hand, is hard to develop an opinion about when no one ever talks about it. A more encompassing phrase would describe disability as a social, cultural, and political construction. Cultural refers to a specific group upholding a certain idea. This accurately implies that treatment of people with disabilities is different not only by country, but evenShow MoreRelatedThe Discrimination Of People With Disabilities Essay1360 Words   |  6 PagesThere are many different issues in society today.
